The Third Voyage of James Cook, Volume 2 | Pacific Exploration, Hawaii & the Northwest Passage Part 4

⭐ Catholic Review — 4/5 Stars A fascinating historical record of exploration, navigation, geography, and encounters between European explorers and Pacific and North American peoples. From a Catholic perspective, it offers valuable material for reflecting on human curiosity, courage, stewardship of creation, cultural encounters, and the moral complexities of exploration and empire. However, this is a secular eighteenth-century exploration narrative rather than Catholic literature, and some descriptions reflect the cultural assumptions and attitudes of its era. Highly worthwhile as historical and geographical reading, but not a work of Catholic spirituality.
