Luna wakes in the hollow-eyed woman's memory, forced to relive the moment the ink first took a host. She watches the woman walk into a river with a stone in her apron, and Luna is pulled under—not into water, but into the ink itself. Inside the ink, she finds the bones of every vessel who came before, and a voice that has been waiting for her since the library's first night. The voice offers her a choice: stay and become the ink's permanent vessel, or return to the library and write an ending that will never be hers.
