The Time is Ripe

Though Amos was a common sheep herder &  fig farmer, God called him as among the first of the writing prophets of the 8th century BC. Visionary prophetic messages in the Hebrew Bible are often referred to as a "burden," a package from God to be delivered to the people. Amos, whose very name in Hebrew means "burden bearer" faithfully bore God's difficult message of judgment coming on His people because of their indifference to injustice, & sin.
