The tortoise and the hare
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
Many of us know Aesop's fable of the arrogant hare who faltered in the end, with the moral that pride comes before a fall. You may have jumped to the conclusion that today's message, because of its title, is linked to that fable but, actually, it isn't and that in itself reminds us to be aware of different contexts and perspectives. Today's story has a completely different perspective to Aesop's fable. In this story the Hare sticks by his best friend Tortoise in a race in which their king had promised riches to the fastest competitor in the race. The hare and tortoise finish last but with hare declaring that he felt that, in fairness, all should be rewarded for their unique and individual skills. The king recognised the wisdom in that and decided to distribute the riches amongst everyone after all. "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us...Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves ...Live in harmony with one another" (Romans 12:6,10, 16 - I have just taken snippets from a rich list of Godly attributes). Let us learn to look at others' contexts and perspectives. Let us learn to love, honour and respect one another.
