The Trifecta of Emotions Series: #1 Boredom

from Project Weight Loss · host Fina Perez

Send us Fan MailIn this episode we break down boredom, the first of  what I call the trifecta of triggering emotions.  The three emotions are boredom, anger and anxiety. I wanted to start with the first one, boredom that seems so benign on the surface. And in a way it is a bit of an innocent emotion. There are 3 camps in the way we deal with boredom. We either hate it, love it, or we just let it be- we are at peace with it. The issue is that this emotion usually brings a sense of restlessness with it, where something feels amiss. And, we do not want to feel amiss, we want to be right with the world, in the world, acting being, doing. Busy.  And if we are not there with the busy, then what the heck, this emotion comes up and we want to run from it, we want to escape from it.  It’s as if there is a huge void that we have to fill immediately. We look to fill the void that we think boredom brings. But how we react to this emotion is where the real awareness and skill lies. I want to unpack this emotion and give you a different perspective so that it doesn't  derail our good intentions and our Project Weight Loss. We are reminded that any emotion starts as a feeling, a vibration in our body, our physiology, which is just our bodies giving us a signal, a vibration of some sort.  And what happens is that we act from this physiological reaction. We act from this feeling. We don’t sit with it, we move to escape from it. It’s sticky and can even feel hot at times. And usually our actions are those actions that are not in our best interest where we are not really being true to ourselves, not being present for our lives.  So, we take it a step further and we act to seek the comfort of food, alcohol, drugs, porn or some other outside stimulus. We look to fill the void of boredom. But what if we didn’t. What if we were just present with it.Knowing ahead of time that you will be bored, you are going to have moments of that frenetic and sticky boredom and it will be coupled with other emotions. And so, what are you going to do, are you going to want to escape it?Or will you face it, see it, be present with it.Because to me, when you are bored, there’s the potential that your true self comes out. You get to be present with you. And here’s the thing, the truer, the more honest and the more present you are with yourself, with your existence, the more power and peace you gain over your existence. To me this is intimacy. And from here comes the innovation, the curiosity, the manifestation of your life that can be revealed to you. Remember, that boredom is just your heart calling you and if your present with it, the way of the world will reveal itself to you -Fina PerezLet’s go, let’s get it done.Get more information at: http://projectweightloss.org

This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) True Family Men David Johnson Hey I’m David Johnson founder of True Family Men.
