The Trusted Killer: Betrayal and Bloodshed Behind a Giza Sheikh's Closed Door During the Friday of Rage

from Crime Night · host Crime Night

The case of Sheikh Ahmed Amer and his wife Mona Saeed Abdel Latif is a devastating reminder of how trust and faith can be exploited in the most horrifying ways. In 2011, the Sheikh—beloved in his Giza community for his generosity, religious knowledge, and habit of welcoming students into his home—was brutally betrayed by one of those very students. That student was Sheikh Mohamed Fathallah Al-Husseini, a man who projected piety but in truth carried a double life as a registered criminal and heroin addict. Al-Husseini had carefully planned the crime. Under the guise of respect and religious devotion, he earned the Sheikh’s trust, then one day turned that trust into opportunity. He drugged and suffocated Sheikh Ahmed before attacking Mona, who fought desperately to survive. She was beaten and stabbed in a frenzied assault that revealed the killer’s desperation to silence her. The motive was base: money and jewelry. But what made the crime especially chilling was Al-Husseini’s calculated attempt to cover his tracks. After the murders, he coolly joined Friday prayers and even attended a political demonstration, as though nothing had happened. Forensic evidence, however, unraveled his scheme. Investigators found a distinct medical adhesive tape linked to him, and autopsy results confirmed the method of suffocation and stabbing. Faced with the evidence, Al-Husseini confessed, exposing a shocking betrayal where false piety concealed violent greed. This case struck the public deeply—not only for the brutality of the murders, but because it showed how appearances of religious devotion can be manipulated to mask corruption, addiction, and cold-blooded violence. You can listen and download our episodes for free on more than 10 different platforms:https://linktr.ee/crimenight1Produced by:https://www.podcaistudio.com/
