The Truth About "Finding Yourself"

from Inner Wealth · host Summery Kang

This week I explore one of the most common ideas in self-development — the belief that we need to "find ourselves." Early on in my own journey, I believed that somewhere inside me there was a fully formed, ideal version of who I was meant to be, just waiting to be discovered. But the deeper I went into inner work, the more I realised the process was very different. In this episode, I share why the journey is less about finding yourself and more about removing what was never truly you, then intentionally building the person you choose to be. KEY TAKEAWAYS The first step of growth is uncovering your conditioning. When you start looking within, you don't immediately find your highest self — you find the beliefs, patterns, and survival strategies that have been running your life. Many of our limitations were once protection mechanisms. Behaviours like perfectionism, procrastination, and people-pleasing often began as ways to protect us from fear, criticism, or rejection. You don't just discover who you are — you build who you become. Qualities like discipline, confidence, and courage aren't waiting inside you to be unlocked. They are developed through repeated actions, habits, and conscious choices.   HOST BIO I am Summer. A spiritual being having human experiences. From age 11 I have been obsessed with all things self-development; looking at it from every angle, in pursuit of finding answers for my life. Like all other humans I am figuring it out. Along the way I have discovered knowledge and concepts that have changed my existence and helped navigate my youth, The process of learning and undoing, growing, and evolving has led me right here. The host of 'Inner Wealth', where I bring together the most profound teachings I've learnt during my time here on earth; in hopes of making it a little easier for others to get to the same wisdom. Sharing the line of truth to living a prosperous life.
