(The only disciple to stay with Jesus) Known as the disciple whom Jesus loved Given responsibility for Mary by Jesus Prominent with Peter in the early church Preached through Greece and Asia Persecuted but lived to a ripe old age Possibly the only disciple NOT to die for his faith Wrote the Gospel, letters of John and the Revelation 5. Not at the cross Restored to the Lord He had left his lucrative occupation to follow Jesus He had introduced his friends to Jesus by giving them a feast in his home He later wrote the Gospel of Matthew Many are the stories of Matthew's missionary work in Persia, India and Ethiopia, but these are at best supposition 9. James son of Alphaeus (the little or less) Ran away. Not at the cross Restored to the Lord With the eleven in Acts chapter 1 Probably a brother of Matthew Little is known thereafter 10. Thaddaeus (Or Judas son of James) Ran away. Not at the cross. Not at the cross Restored to the Lord With the apostles in Acts Had been zealous for his religion and his nation Never lost this “nickname” as he was zealous for his new Master, and died for his faith 12. Judas Iscariot Betrayed the Lord – not at the cross. Never restored When he saw that Jesus was sentenced to death he committed suicide If he had come to the cross Jesus would have forgiven him for He called Judas friend knowing that he would betray him THE LESSON FOR US TODAY. Jesus died for the sins of the world Jesus died for my sins Jesus will forgive and restore all who come to Him As our Lord and Saviour He will take up our lives and use them for His purpose and glory. Then He will use them for the blessing of others, maybe millions. Come to the cross – find Him there – not on the cross But at the cross, risen, glorified and waiting to save.
