Originally Aired: February 16, 1954Johnny Dollar #202, "The Uncut Canary Matter," insurance investigator Johnny Dollar races to Beverly Hills to track down a missing 89-carat orange-yellow diamond worth $125,000. The rare uncut canary diamond vanishes from the vault at Madame Johanna's exclusive jewelry store, where it has sat for over a year while the proprietor carefully plans how to cleave the valuable but temperamental stone. Only four people know the vault combination: Madame Johanna herself, her assistant Carter, and two master diamond cutters, Edolf Spears and Hans Blessen, who have worked for the establishment for thirty years.Just as Johnny begins his investigation, one of the cutters, Edolf Spears, phones to say he will turn over the diamond to police. Johnny teams up with Lieutenant Hankins of the Beverly Hills Police Department, who shares an intriguing rumor: the canary may be impossible to cut without shattering into worthless dust, and Madame Johanna desperately needs cash. As they arrive at Spears' house to recover the gem, questions swirl about whether this will be a simple recovery or something far more complicated.
