The debate over transgender athletes in women's sports has entered a new phase. This isn't simply politicians arguing about Title IX or activists arguing over transgender rights. Women athletes themselves are increasingly divided. Megan Rapinoe has criticized Riley Gaines and Sophie Cunningham over their positions on transgender participation in women's sports. Cunningham has become one of the more visible current professional athletes arguing that women's sports should remain based on biological sex. Riley Gaines has built a national advocacy movement around that same argument. Meanwhile, other WNBA players have taken the opposite position, including publicly saying they would welcome a transgender woman onto their team. And then there's Caitlyn Jenner.  Jenner is transgender, an Olympic gold medalist, and nevertheless argues that transgender women should not compete against biological women.
