The UnWoke Show Season 4, Episode 196: "The LGBTQ Coalition Is Splitting: Why Gay Republicans Are Dropping the “T”

A chance conversation at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., introduced Tim to a phrase he had never heard before: “Republican gay.” The college-age women using it represented a mix of political beliefs—including one democratic socialist—and at least one connected the phrase to personal experience involving an ex-boyfriend. Days later, the Log Cabin Republicans announced that the nation’s oldest major organization for gay conservatives would no longer include transgender advocacy in its national mission. The organization now identifies specifically as an LGB conservative organization. Coincidence? Perhaps. But it exposes a much larger political and cultural divide. In this episode, The UnWoke Show examines the history of gay Republicans, the political differences between sexual orientation and gender identity, the arguments surrounding transgender athletes and medical treatment for minors, and whether the LGBTQ coalition still represents one shared movement. The central question: Are gay and transgender Americans fighting the same political battle—or were several different causes bundled together under one increasingly unstable acronym?   Show Notes https://www.advocate.com/politics/national/log-cabin-republicans-drop-transgender?utm_source=chatgpt.com https://www.advocate.com/politics/log-cabin-republicans-history?utm_source=chatgpt.com https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/21/politics/log-cabin-republicans-transgender-politics   Social Media https://x.com/UnWokeTheShow https://bsky.app/profile/theunwokeshow.bsky.social https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61591818194574   Podcast links https://theunwokeshow.podbean.com/ https://open.spotify.com/show/27rkGZYhccSF8stUzzGxaI https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-unwoke-show/id1686015698\ https://goodpods.com/podcasts/the-unwoke-show-309196 https://www.youtube.com/@TheUnWokeShow/videos?app=desktop   Feedback [email protected]
