Aug.11, 2026 Daily Devotional: “The Urgency of Now”Psalm 119:60 ​"I hasten and do not delay to keep your commandments." ​We live in a culture that has mastered the art of "later." We snooze alarm clocks, save tasks for "someday," and put off hard conversations until the mood feels right. Unfortunately, spiritual procrastination often sneaks in the same way. We rarely voice flat-out disobedience to God; instead, we offer a soft, delayed obedience. “I’ll forgivethem once the anger wears off.” “I’ll start being generous when my budget frees up.” “I’ll fix that habit after this busy season ends.” ​In Psalm 119:60, the psalmist cuts through that subtle trap with a sense of decisive purpose: "I hasten and do not delay." The phrase "I hasten" carries the idea of quick movement—a runner springing off the starting line as soon as the signal sounds. The psalmist doubles down on the point by immediately adding, "and do not delay." It's anintentional emphasis: true obedience has an expiration date on its effectiveness when postponed. Delayed obedience is often just disobedience in disguise. ​When God prompts your heart—whether to repent, step out in faith, extend grace, or honor His word—He isn't asking you to file the thought away for later reflection. Prompt obedience preserves peace, guards your heart against hardened spiritual fatigue, and positions you to walk in freedom right now. In the biblical view, putting off a command until a more "convenient" time is often just a polite form of refusal. Lingering leaves room for doubt, rationalization, and temptation to creep in. At its core, Psalm 119:60 speaksto the urgency, priority, and decisiveness of obedience.  The verse describes a heart trained to respond instantly to God’s guidance. Just as a trained athlete responds without overthinking, a mature believer moves as soon as God speaks. It teaches that when God speaks, the only proper response is "now."
