The Vilification of Noticing
from LIV(ing) Hosted by Olivia Geikie
A STUNNING week! I went to Sydney, spent too much money, ate too well and returned home with plenty to discuss, arguably the entire purpose of leaving the house. We’re catching up on what I’ve been watching, listening to and reading, and what’s taken over my feed. OH! And we’re making a playlist: This Girl Is Going to Be Okay. Then, a conversation about violence against women, the way we talk about it, and what happens when awareness becomes part of a much bigger cultural conversation. Who gets heard, what gets noticed, and whether we’ve become better at recognising the things we once looked past. And for the Seriously Personal: when did noticing become embarrassing? When did remembering the tiny details, reading into a change in someone’s tone, or admitting that you care become something women are supposed to be embarrassed by? We’re talking performing disinterest, intuition versus overthinking, the vilification of the Crazy Woman and the strange pressure to prove how little we care. Because maybe the problem isn’t that women notice too much. Welcome to LIV(ing).
