Every Addiction is actually an attempt to meet a need. We are usually victims or slaves to the things we crave for. It could be love, approval, attention, recognition and the likes. Once we sense that emptiness within we end up looking for things to satisfy the craving which in turn can lead us into an abusive addiction. Understanding that both God and Satan are vying for a place in your life is exceptional critical because you will have to make a choice for who will satisfy you.
