The Wakamiya Maru is Blown Off Course (1794)

The sixteen men who set sail from Ishinomaki, Japan on November 27th 1793 were far from worldly men. Since 1639 Japan had forbidden its citizens from traveling abroad and the furthest that the crew of the Wakamiya Maru intended to go on this voyage was Edo.
