As God's people, believers have been set aside as being different from everyone else. Our faith in Christ makes us stand out from the common people; it also draws hostility from a world that gives no regard for God. We're spirits possessing souls, which are where our thoughts and emotions live; in light of this, it's imperative that we carefully monitor who is influencing our thought lives: Satan rules the world, and his strategy is to invade our minds by ensnaring us in worldly things.
