The War Within: Flesh, Spirit, and Prayer in James 4:1–3

James 4:1–3 reveals that quarrels arise from selfish desires—“your pleasures that wage war in your members.” The flesh craves, envies, and seeks its own way, producing strife, hatred (“murder”), and broken fellowship. Prayer becomes ineffective because people either do not ask God or ask with wrong motives, seeking to satisfy their own pleasures rather than to honor Him. True spiritual life requires submitting the body and its desires to the Spirit, abiding in Christ, and loving others. Outward peace and answered prayer flow from inward surrender to God.
