28 Years in China: What the Last Taoist Masters Taught Me About Inner Work (Andrew Nugent)
from Evolution FM: Consciousness, Human Potential, & Inner Work for Entrepreneurs
Andrew Nugent spent 28 years in China as a closing-door disciple to three classical masters of Taoism and Chinese medicine. His inner work journey began at 18 when a martial arts teacher healed his broken foot in two weeks without a cast. That experience sent him to Beijing in 1987, where he found the last surviving scholars who carried living Taoist knowledge through the Cultural Revolution. He founded the Association for Traditional Studies , a nonprofit preserving these ancient arts through teaching and documentation. In this episode with Andrew Nugent, we explore what real inner work looks like through classical Taoism, why the Tao Te Ching was written in chaos rather than peace, and how inner transformation is less about acquiring wisdom and more about clearing the noise that keeps us from hearing it.Who This Episode Is For:Founders and leaders drawn to mastery and ancient wisdomAnyone exploring consciousness expansion and spiritual evolutionSeekers who want Taoism to be practical, not abstractWhat You'll Learn:Why the Tao Te Ching reads differently at every stage of lifeThe tuning fork metaphor for inner transformationWhat Gong Fu really means beyond martial artsHow consciousness practices deepen through lived experienceWhy simplicity is the deepest form of human developmentFor full show notes: https://podcast.scottbritton.me/p/the-way-of-daoism-origins-wisdomGo Deeper:If this conversation resonated, you can check out:• Join my email list for ongoing insights on consciousness, spirituality, using business as a spiritual path and human potential.• My book Conscious Accomplishment: How to Use Personal Achievement for Spiritual Growth• My company Conscious Talent - where business leaders and companies who value both inner work and professional excellence connect.Chapters:(00:00) Andrew's path to China and the last masters(06:45) Discovering Taoism in communist Beijing(20:28) How to actually use the Tao Te Ching(34:09) The tuning fork and inner transformation(49:04) What Gong Fu really means(58:13) Simplicity, clarity, and the centered self
