“The Way of Wisdom”

Work through these principles from chapter 8, “The Way of Wisdom”▪ He begins with Proverbs 2:1-6 and then provides these three insights about how we get wisdom:1. By reading our Bibles (storing up God’s commands) [scripture]2. Listening to sound advice (turning our ears to wisdom) [counsel]3. Praying to God (calling out for insight) [prayer]And make application to work & marriage (Chapter 9) - maybe helpful to walk through these as wellNot sure if the material from chapter 6 would be helpful in this conversationIn chapter 6, DeYoung provides insights on how God provides guidance in decision making.▪ “I believe God guides us in decision making. But note the key word there: ‘God guides us in decision making.’I did not say, ‘God expects us to discover His plan for our lives.’”▪ DeYoung then quotes from Hebrews 1:1-2 and then give five statements to help us understand God’s guidancein the book of Hebrews1. God guides us by His invisible providence at all times. (page 63)2. God can speak to His people in many different ways, guiding them with their conscious cooperation(pages 63-64)3. In these last days, God has spoken to us by His Son (page 64)4. God continues to speak to us by His Son through His Spirit in the Scriptures (page 65-66)5. Apart from the Spirit working though Scripture, God does not promise to use any other means to guideus, nor should we expect him to. (pages 66-67▪ What about exceptions?~ Can we expect the unexpected? [pages 67-70]~ What about spiritual gifts?
