THE WEIGHT OF THE CARRY#NightLightRTTBROS "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28I remember watching a tv show about a group of hikers on a trail a few years back. There was one guy who had a pack that looked like it belonged on a mule. It was oversized, overstuffed, and he was leaning forward just to keep from tipping over. Every few hundred yards, he’d stop, gasp for air, and shift the straps. He was exhausted, not because the trail was too steep, but because he was carrying things he didn't actually need for the trip.We do that with our souls all the time.We don't just carry today's burdens; we carry the ghosts of last year's mistakes, the "what-ifs" of next decade, and the weight of expectations we never actually signed up for. We lean forward, gasping for air, wondering why the walk of faith feels so heavy."Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28Notice He doesn't say, "Come to me once you've sorted through your pack." He says come while you're still heavy laden. The invitation is to bring the whole oversized bag: the shame, the anxiety, the exhausted effort, and trade it for His rest. The secret to the journey isn't getting stronger so you can carry more; it's getting smarter about what you leave at His feet.Tonight, before you drift off, take an inventory of your pack. What are you carrying that doesn't belong on this trail?Set the bag down. He's got it.Application Points:1. Identify the "Extra Weight": Spend five minutes in silence asking the Holy Spirit to show you one specific burden you are carrying (a past regret, a future fear, or someone else's expectation) that isn't yours to bear.2. The Physical Release: As you pray, physically open your hands palms-up to symbolize the act of releasing that specific weight to God, acknowledging that His strength is sufficient where yours has run out.3. Practice Selective Carrying: Tomorrow, when you feel that "leaning forward" exhaustion, stop and ask: "Is this a burden God asked me to carry, or am I packing for a trip I'm not on?"
