This is the best hang podcast featuring Max German Shane Cunningham and I am Mike Bierman Welcome to the best hang podcast. I'm like we got Shane and I think we got an all white lotus episode today Maybe we'll talk about some of the things. I don't know fellas. How's it going good max is wearing a very ill fitting hat?
What is though the best or not that it looks bad? It's ill fitting in a cool. It's just on my head in a funny way Yeah, sorry. We're actually got me this hat.
It says it's nice on it. No, it's very good. It's very good I feel like you're you're a man of vintage Brand hats, you know floppy hats you could find in a What do you call them? What are the stores?
Where they like not vintage but like that's It's just ours. I guess there's another word for that. Yeah, but I can hear maybe I feel like we're not hitting the word that I'm thinking of and I can't Cross consignment. No, but that's a good one as well.
Anyway, this one says Revax on it. Are you a real estate fan? Or you just like the balloon? It's very vintage 80s 90s Yeah, you know, I love remax and partial to remix.
Yeah, okay. Your name is Matt. Yeah, my name is Max. I'm partial to Sean Dawson Yes, it's a good ad.
Well, yeah, we'll build one back for that one. Although he is great He is all of our real estate. She's our great close friend my former bandmate and also the world's best real estate agent guys Are we are we catching up for before we jump into the white lotus or what's going on for a second? And then we'll get home.
It's great. I was having nothing but I was thinking about I was thinking about this came up the other day But I was thinking about our friends because we're all like 40 plus now I don't know for you yet, but you know, we're that in that bracket and I feel like I don't wanna pat ourselves on the back Too much, but I feel like most of our friends are glowing up, right? Like I was I was going through all of our friends and I was like Sean looks great peak looks great jug looks great You know, it's like we're all the Hamilton dads. Felix looks great.
Like no, is anybody getting worse? Great if someone was would we say it? That's a even better question. Oh sure.
No, but broadly speaking I just think I think we have like a handsome dad group. Yeah, I think with Jug Jug's never look better last time I thought you're like god damn good for Jug. You know, it's like, I mean, you know, it's a it's a nice and interesting observation I think the group I think people in general you see this in sports now people are playing longer You see them people that are as they age they just don't feel as old you know There's that famous little like name or there's still that goes around at the cast of cheers and they put the ages of all like seven people And they're all like in their early 30s, but they all look like they're in the 50s I just think we're in an era where like our clothing options maybe are unwillingness to To I don't know I don't know what it would be but yeah, I don't know if people are living healthier I don't know if that's the answer maybe we have to look at ourselves more so we have to be hotter Maybe that's it maybe back in like 30 years ago. We just never saw ourselves much because it's just other than the mirror the on footer taken Yeah, yeah, I'm so aware of what we're eating and how much we're eating back in the day You didn't know how many calories were in a cheeseburger It was all guesswork and how full is my tummy now?
We're keeping like a running tab of how much we're eating because we're forced to yeah And I think we're because of social media I agree with you Shane And I also think as a social media and we're so like in photos all we see it You just said we see ourselves so much that we're very aware I think of how we look and how we present to the world in a larger sort of group than we had in the past like you probably You know back to 1994 you could probably find some guy or gal that was in their mid-40s That was like oh that person's still so they got it so together and they look great But I feel like those options are available to everyone now because of you know We all are super aware of health and exercise and like you said We just have to see ourselves all the time on zooms photos on Instagram on tick that we're just kind of like maybe more conscious Maybe we're more narcissistic maybe we're more probably probably probably I don't know Anyway, that was random one-off observation before we get to my lotus. I need to talk to Mike Shane. You can listen No, I want to thank Mike because Mike put it put in some good hard work on my bit with Buble And then yeah, our premier musical work show in Canada the Juneau's you would you present it at this right? So I went to go I went to go to Vancouver in part for my older maker is bachelor party And then the Juneau weekend were happening in Vancouver next year's can be in Hamilton They suggested oh max and booble because their best friends should do a bit together It's like Goggins and Sam Rockwell back And so immediately I called Mike and I said Mike which we do and we came up with lots of great shit like lots of Like what would you like do you remember some of the bits that we had we had?
You guys we should have these shows have writers and stuff but they had sort of a thing where I guess you guys were introducing some 41 and Booble was supposed to be like oh, you know Actually, I gotta say you're like my favorite frontman and all time or whatever and then it kind of goes on But then I did the thing where I was like maybe you should like go to compliment him back But then switch a rivet so it's like oh and like yeah my favorite crooning Canadian singer of all time is and then Michael Booble is supposed to say thank you and then you go Paul Anka and then you know you sort of shut it down and then it goes from there because they're They're introducing some 41 I did say and of course now, you know speaking of my favorite Canadian singers under 5 foot 7 Here's some 41 and there's because Paul Anka is also about 5'6 I see I just hearing it now. I still think it's funny just saying that some 41 is under 5'7 to me It's just funny, but you didn't say that in the clip. I saw it looks like you went with a like a geographical angle Didn't you say I went I gave him a few things and then you know after some shinsome stuff off neglecting my children given him some ideas Ashen, Max were like they talked to mr. Booble and what did he say he was like Calls me I get to Victoria he goes and I think it's at the end of the show.
He's been doing jokes by the way He did a bit with his wife earlier, which was sort of the same kind of thing right where he's like honey you look so beautiful How do I look and she's like ignore some so it's like that kind of thing So he calls me he said Max we don't need to make any jokes. You're my friend. Let's just make it Let's just make it earnest and from the heart I'm gonna say you're my favorite front man in the world and then you can say something else I'm 41 and that'll be that okay So I call back Mike and I said alright text Mike Mike word all the jokes are gone It's just gonna be you know from the heart nothing funny But then we get there and booble is in a slightly different mood and we've heard from other people They're like oh there's a little bit more room for just like say whatever you want So then I came up with a joke about like you know booble is been a great host tonight But also this entire weekend to me I've stayed at his house He's been feeding me breakfast. You're welcome to come to Hamilton Well, you can sit there kills house Mike.
He makes me pancakes. He liked that And then I made a geographical reference was which is for a various chains looking like this Okay, I guess the pancakes is a punch I'm just thinking And then I made a joke about how people in Durham region always don't want to like be confused like I don't live in Ajax I live in Whippy or I live in Pickering. There's there's like geographical lines there that are from your small audience I made that joke. It's going it's going great on on TikTok by the way Clip is it's killing so it so the algorithm in Durham region is really enjoying that joke I don't know if it landed for the rest of the country and then and then we threw it to someone one But anyway, I just wanted to say for the record Mike Thank you for your your great jokes if we had more time if you'd been there with me in person and we got to flow with booble we would have used your material and it would be also like a key joke too like we were Like a key to city like you give a key to Hamilton and Ash was already like ordering one on like You know you can hear the key to my place and then he gives me the key to his place and his keys really big Yeah, that was really big.
Yeah, like you want like a place in Hamilton He was even the key to the city like it's very important. Yeah, that's not for working I saw the clip that you guys posted you were very you guys had your chemistry very chemistry. Oh, yeah for sure It was very great that stuff and I did enjoy the dance that you posted I saw you just do your thing you kind of got this hand dancing your point I'm like it was during the commercial break. Yeah, just happen to catch us because we were getting in the zone They're playing this like dance music.
I think the song is I am Canadian we are Can they do something like that and people are just like keep it loose. We're like dancing around. I thought it looked kind of cool Yeah, it was nice watching and I'm looking at what does this remind me of and then I just I Shamed you know what he's gonna say what no, no, I was thinking about I'm really thinking about that dancing moment It's clicked in what was happening and I was like is is that it reminded me of when you see like Letterman when it goes to like break And then you know when it goes commercial break And you know Letterman and the guests on the couch they kind of have to fill that time with some meandering Yeah, and Letterman such an intimidating force It could be awkward. So usually Letterman just drums on the desk and like throws pencils time.
I was wondering Showing the dance and I'm looking at this remind me of and then he points out the crowd here and so I DM Ash and I go there you go. There's the point I go, you know It looks like he could be at a political rally in Florida wearing a red hat right now It's the Trump dance. It's 100% the Trump dance. He's got the hands going the point max max or whoo max Oh max could be yes.
Yes, I see I was Yeah, that's a signature move to you I think you were doing that before Trump max. Yeah, definitely I was doing it for Trump Yeah, that was funny, but you just reminded me of some genuine letterman and going to break someone to just post it like a interview because he never does these anymore, but Leonardo DiCaprio is a young guy I don't even know what he's promoting maybe like basketball dairies or something He was pretty early on he's on Letterman and it's such a funny dynamic because Letterman is doing his Letterman thing Where he's kind of like he's not like it's hard for Leo to get his story off Leo just wants to basically tell a story about how he had to change his first agent when he was a kid trying to get a Change his name to like Larry dense in some basic name or whatever because Leonardo DiCaprio is to ethnic sounding is what Leo said But Leo's got his pre-planned story. He's probably like I don't know if he's a teenager or if he's in his 20s But definitely young but Letterman just keeps like and Letterman's being funny But you can tell Leo just wants to get his pre-planned and rehearsed story out and he's going with it pretty good But I just remember thinking like oh, this is why Leo never does Like you know it just felt like he had no control over the situation and like it was Funny but you could just tell that there's a level of discomfort super fascinating clip from a thousand years ago But yeah, it's my me the Letterman dynamic They were saying we can be intimidating so just really control the show and it's before Leo I think it must have been before Titanic maybe I don't know how powerful Leo was at that point but interesting stuff But Max do you think Junos is gonna come calling to have you be host anytime soon? Hmm a couple people floated that idea I don't think I'm famous enough I think they want like an international star likes like booble or simu That's the sweet spot like somebody who like you know Cells out like you know arena's or the movie star or you know like around the world and then if I'm the genius That's what I want to so I don't think I don't think they can be but if but guys if I take the gig You're my writing my writing team, okay, I'm in it would be an honor.
That'd be so fun to write a Junos Yeah, I'll give you segments do you do it do it do it opening bit Oh, yeah, you know opening up we film a bit and we combine it with a little like live on stage stuff Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, that'd be so good to get one of those for the Hamilton if it's in Hamilton You guys will have a record out presumably would not mean for everything Maybe that's pretty much it but I'm assuming presuming yeah, I thought you would be a co-hosting when I saw the clips Oh really? Yeah, I had to go with a max co-hosting the Junos with booble and I just don't know but it said you weren't that'd be cool Maybe maybe next year's booble max together. That's cool idea, but you know people listen this for the insider account was that did you was an after party? Did you move like go after what was the divide you just get back on a plane?
We're your pro we in and out I took the right eye home So I did not go to an after-ready booble I asked booble he was doing after the show and he said that he was Filming the next morning like 6 a.m. So he was not going out Oh, but I was also this other moment. I mean I made a check talk explainer about it, but basically before our segment baby no money won a Juno and at the end of his speech he said Elon Musk is garbage is a piece of human garbage or is a piece of garbage? Yeah, yeah, and then the crowd went nuts.
We didn't really hear it We just heard the crowd like kind of gasps and start cheer and and it was literally kind of right to us on the floor We were like below the stage 15 front of them and I asked asked on the other side of the camera What did he say and then she said Elon's garbage? I said okay, and then booble goes I didn't hear what he said but people seem to like it and then I said I already said He was right. Oh, whoa that clip got taken and put on tiktok and everyone and then booble I started catching strays because we go booble heard he pretended not to hear he didn't want to hear you Didn't want to say that yeah, and I got from our cows like sticking the stand or whatever and so I had to make this explainer saying like no booble did not no and he's definitely So anyway, it really kind of spoke it made me think about like how volatile the internet is because it actually wasn't there and Didn't happen to like you know catch it and then tell it to me and like moutled it to me I would have been in the same shoes and then I would have had to make this excuse going like oh we actually didn't hear it I swear to god he's a guard you know like Especially you can't away from you love saying stuff like that like you were being provocative on news saying about the like Wasn't Tesla like attacked or something you're like that's Hamilton. Yeah go boys or something like that So I feel like I live for these provocative public moments in a way as long as it's on the right side, you know Anyway, should we talk about white lotus yes, you should talk about white lotus well critiques in general Well before we get to that I speaking of critics and controversy I brought one owner to see Snow White on Saturday I don't know if you've seen this movie.
It's a bit controversial Minecraft you went to Snow White. Yeah, it's fine You say that because the theater was slammed it went like a 1230 little matinee thing and she was like She doesn't play Minecraft for me So just really like she's heard of it like kids in her school like I talk about it But the posters there it's like there was 10,000 kids all going into the Minecraft theaters and just like me and Winona and our Pathetic popcorn going into Snow White where nobody was going into and she was like so we go into Snow White I forgot about this movie a lot. It's a dark story. There's like there's death.
There's murder plots It's like it's whatever I only remembered like the seven dwarves and then sort of cleaning and dancing and shit like I didn't remember that it was kind of a dark Movie or story I should say so anyway Half of them she's like let's like go out whatever we go out We're looking at the giant minecraft poster Which is also super colorful and funny and she's like is that like is that a kind of funny movie and I was like yeah I think it is she's like can we see that next time and I'm like yeah Yeah, let's go and finish Snow White because you know I want to finish the movie or whatever and we get out And she's I was like what do you think she's like that was like the worst movie I've ever seen I was like that Listen it wasn't a good movie like it's not a great movie It's not vastly worse than any of these other Disney remake movies and all that stuff and I was like what was the issue and like a little Critic she's six years old she said the first part was Rapunzel the second part was Sleeping Beauty So she basically was just saying that Snow White is derivative and not worthy of our time Can we go to lobby and play some video games and I was like it made me laugh so much because she was still annoyed about it On the drive home and I was laughing because in the moment I realized how obnoxious I must sound to my brother I'll play after we see something like Gladiator too I'm like she is me doing this to me about Snow White right now And it's just crazy how the kids when you've seen enough of these Disney movies She's literally picking up on the nuances and why she did not like the movie the movie's fine You wouldn't have known to critique a movie like that when I like not until it's like 12 to be like you know I mean like that age is like I'm at the movies like it's every movie's good Do you mean? Kids don't even like going to the movies that much at least my kids don't unless it's a banger They want to stay home and stream it and my daughter we really we went to see Minecraft She goes I don't want to go I don't want to go let's stay home and watch it and she she told me it was out on TV Which it wasn't and sometimes I guess they do like a simultaneous release But they didn't and then I go you're going to have an amazing time at Minecraft because I heard it's like Super Mario Brothers level of like people wanting to see it and true enough. It was the best movie experience Maybe I've ever been to it was like Rocky Minecraft It's an exhibit phenomenon right now. There's videos out of people.
It's someone like you did to Rocky or picturesque So yeah, somehow I looked it up afterwards because people were yelling out certain lines cheering There was clapping and unison But apparently the script was leaked in a large number of scenes and people are so obsessed with this video game that they had researched it Memorized the lines and then they all somehow agreed that they're gonna show up at a movie theater and yell out certain lines But Lucy's mine was blown. She's looking around at everyone and she doesn't know the lines that you're supposed to yell out So she thought she had like could yell out anything she wanted which was kind of like embarrassing because then it'd be dead quiet The movie was actually very good and it's directed by Jared Hess who didn't pull in dynamite But it's still has all that like quirky comedy that he's known for and it's done really well because Jared Hess went through a period where he had like three bombs in a row and I kind of thought he was in Movie purgatory, but this has brought him back from the dead And I think his next movie is probably gonna be a really cool Jared Hess movie that he actually wants to do because this was probably a bit of a Money grab test for him But I was wow message you and pops actually and say this feels like a movie we could make because it has kid humor But humor that we would all laugh at also interesting Well, honestly, we were like so you would have been part of that crush of thousands and thousands of people that went to see This in Hamilton alone that went to see this this Minecraft movie But yeah, that was the one she wanted to see and she doesn't know she doesn't any context for it But maybe that's what we'll do like next week It was good lesson because I was like yeah, I was like go to the fun colorful goofy thing, you know That's gonna be more the speed anyway than some, you know And I heard the movies a bit like it's chaos right like it's just like is there a plot or it's actually I'm gonna do reviews. I do not find accurate. It's actually something you and I would be proud of making It's really funny the performances are really good the editing is fucking awesome The nuance jokes are wicked like when they get to the high school scenes.
It's like a all-world comedy in my opinion. Wow Next weekend I'm doing the damn thing with with Winona and the visual effects are actually amazing It's not just like pure CGI they they incorporate I don't even know what the style is but it feels like you can actually touch the characters Like there's these zombie characters and they feel both CGI and real at the same time. Oh man, that's so fun All right, what a heavy endorsement max you can see the Minecraft movie no Maybe bring your niece and nephews. So I guess you know what maybe maybe maybe maybe yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah All right, well, okay, I have a kid's corner here max.
You almost fell asleep over there. I apologize And let's get to more adult fair guys. We're here to talk about white lotus, you know One of the few mono culture if you can even call it that shows that we have left where everybody talks about it very zeitgeisty There's been eight episodes of season. I guess every year it's increased I guess season one was six season two and seven here in season three it is eight episodes and last night We're corn some Monday.
Hopefully our guy the master Nathan Nash can get this up today The finale so I guess they spoilers but where do we want to start with white loads? Where's it? I haven't seen season one so I can't actually say how it stacks up in all three seasons either. Yeah, oh, yeah I knew that about you Only one qualified max to say where this ranks in the three seasons.
I can say we're between last season in this season, but I'm such a bad memory That hot season two was hot season one city Sweeney and Didario Yeah, they didn't do anything that hot I didn't think maybe I missed the finale episode I watched the first Season two was great. What do you think between the two season two issues three? I will say overall season two was the best. I will say three had a higher high though I thought season two was way better like just season the connectivity of the mystery I thought the story told was tighter and less I found stuff in the season like inexplicable or logically You know shaky almost infuriating though.
Okay, so you're with me on this I'm so I'm so curious about Max's opinion because I find that you align more with like Populous opinion and what like you're not looking for all you call me a dummy You watch a show at kind of face value and you're not trying to kind of think of the construct of it and where it's going and You can watch and let go a little bit more than Mike and I share like second episode Mike is like Oh, the dads obviously, you know, well and God and the person he's trying to kill is obviously his own father Like Mike. Yeah, parse that out right away And yeah, I was thinking I'm like fuck my brain didn't even want to go there because in some ways It's such an obvious thing and I'd like to think Mike whites not gonna do that So my brain wouldn't even allow me to go down that route and then I told Alex She's like, oh that would be kind of smart but then by the time it was building up to it It felt like don't go there This is starting to feel too obvious and I'm obvious Yeah, but I'm wondering if it's because Mike had planted that in me And I secretly thought I was about to come to that conclusion on my own or if the normies aka the dumb Or people like Max would have noticed something like that which of course I'm kidding Max You know, you know, yeah that theory had been floated around so I was definitely like look the same But I didn't read that theory that was literally just within I'm like if you're doing the logic of a series and how you're laying it out That's gonna be the twist most likely. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, and but I could be thrown off the scent very easily Yeah, you're pointing Shane so when so that in the last episode when by the way spoiler alert If when he says to Walt Walton Goggins is like I knew your dad.
He was a piece of shit Much kid it was it was just I found the writing concretes here to like a lot of the stuff Well, the machines put the hot there were some highs in the writing like the same rock wall speech Right and also the third girlfriend Amazing speech her monologue was so good. I was great Totally like he has these moments It's almost like he had these pieces he needed to get to and then just sort of gave up around it Or just was getting through it quickly and then want to get to his My mitzvah, but yeah, I think she nailed it highs were high But then some of the shit I was just like what like this is of a lesser show like I'm sorry. Yeah, you go Okay, so the same rock wall monologue And I think we're all going to go and say that this was an amazing peak of the season Which is that monologue he gave was so weird and unique and it was nothing I'd ever seen before no one could have predicted that it gave me like chills in a weird way and the performance was awesome And I'm like this character is my favorite character in that moment I'm like this is one of the best TV characters ever and then the next episode this very introspective character This guy who seems so so thought out all the sudden becomes a complete fucking moron And he's going to carry out a heist with Walton Goggins and he does zero research in the character He's supposed to be portraying that he's supposed to be a producer then he's supposed to know every film that this high stakes Thing that he's involved with he's supposed to it's like life or death and they're playing it like a scene from dumb and dumber and he's Jeff And makes no sense that's true and then all of a sudden like he's so staunch on his sobriety I did like kind of that he broke his sobriety because that was just kind of a fun Yeah, the relapse made sense that check out to me But the relapse didn't makes it makes sense that he had a relapse after failing so poorly in That he needed a drink to loosen up But the fact that he failed so poorly in that scene just did not feel like soundwriting like that was ludicrous I agree. I agree with that but that's even sharpened.
Did you think so way to do that? No, I think that there was a lot of times where I was just like like even after he knocks over the old guy in the pen Ultimate episode and then they just go back to the hotel like you know You're gonna see people like what was your what was your plan? And it's just like are they just people that are just going off of pure instinct and sort of like not planning things out because it's like If I had this confrontation and like and then I'm gonna go back to the hotel and just like everything's gonna be fine Like I don't know what they were thinking was going to happen and that was tough trips me up when I'm watching Goggins is just like yeah, I feel better now man like got that up my you're gonna see this fucking guy again And he's going to murder you well, then yes, yes Also hit the old guy flashing the gun And then I'm like like we all knew that the bunny tooth woman was going to die right like a cheetah She's behind him and why did you know that why did you know that? Well, I'm like okay.
I'm like okay Mike White is doing things that I would think he's better than like doing Um, you know what like a dream sequence is such a cop-out when what's his name? The dad is I think about his suicidal his suicidal ideations and killing people like Mike White is pulling that trick where he's showing It like it's a real scene and then like uh-huh. He's just a dreaming and then doing it again and again Yeah, it's like okay He's going down that road but then every horror film you always kill the most innocent person or the most virtuous person the person Who shouldn't die guys? So I'm like oh, they're just going after all the innocent ones and plucking them off And then her fate was sealed when she gave the speech about finding true love and when you have some connection with someone when when they get hurt You get hurt too.
So I'm like, oh, she's gonna fucking die and then so is God gets because that just yeah The six feet under right there that speech, but I'm trying to still giving Mike White credit I'm like there's no way he's gonna do that He's he's talking to me directly to think that I think that and then he's gonna zag in some very impressive way But then I'm just left like what the fuck is this all of a sudden this is like a horror movie of the week Who should have died then I think the new zag in 2025 is killed the obvious person because everyone's watching the show and they go Okay, it's obviously not going to be this person who deserves to die, right? You always think oh, it's going to be this unlike Well the dad the rich dad who was gonna go to jail when he gets back to America and all that stuff They teased it so much so that's the obvious either him or someone from that family is going to die or they're gonna portray Some sort of thing but you knew it wasn't going to be them Although the head fake where the the youngest son there Laki drinks the poison and then he wakes up at the end again Another sort of weird head fake but you knew it wasn't gonna be that family because he just talked about it all series Like they showed us fantasy scenes I actually thought when they that first thing that Shane was talking about were they do the head fake It turns out to be she shoots himself in the head and then he shoots and then the wife comes in and the daughter comes in and they scream I was like oh shit They pulled this in the third episode where it was sick and I was like damn I was like okay, we're in it and then he wake up and then you realize the fantasy and go oh they did a head fake That's like wow. I'm wow interesting and then they kept doing it It's like there's no way this family's going to die now because they that's all we've been living in so he's gonna go The other way was if they did died and if he actually let them drink the the penis I was actually thought he was gonna do I was like okay We're gonna do this and then he did his one last head fake where it was like you know Just that's why again like they might argue the right I'm like white or any of them I go hey like this was entertaining This is what a mystery show does. This is what this is the genre I'm doing genre work and I'm doing it well and there's all these highlights within it and if you know critics are gonna be a Little bit too in it It's just like you're not allowing yourself to go on the journey And I totally understand that argument as well I think that's why like stuff like season two is so good because I felt like and I maybe I miss remember I go back and watch it It just felt tighter and like the motivations and the reason people did things and the constructs to get them into their little moments And like these these moments of circumstance and all these extraordinary things just felt more sound and less like they were happening for TV Reasons because you needed X to happen.
So then why happens? The woman who wanted to open the spa who ended up getting the five-mill yes She could have been a logical person to die because already somebody's after her So if they just went bang and killed her abruptly at some early episode and did the whole game of Thrones thing That would probably have my jaw on the floor because I'm like that is so obvious that she would be the one to get it that The person who should get it getting it is a new zag. Yeah, I mean remember in succession on like episode in the last season when I respected the hell of that. Yeah, I respected the last season early in the last season and you're like okay Wow, holy shit Yeah, cuz I feel like if the family did drink the pinucalata that'd be a crazy yes like way for them to die He was doing this and it's actually nothing to do with the gunshot because everyone keeps something and somebody like died by a gunshot And like oh no, there's like five people that died from pinucalata's I also think that um I thought it to be slow and it's not that I need to show to be upbeat But there's there's some storylines that just kind of moved slowly and didn't satisfy me the way they could have so I'll give you two examples The group of three girlfriends I love their dynamic and just like the pettiness that exists in that kind of group and where they are there in their life And like I liked all of that But the storyline with like the Russian guys just kind of like I just didn't care that much about it And then the storyline between the security guard and the maid could have been like so cute and good But he was just it was the same thing over and over again He's like oh do you like me?
I promise you I'm tough and it was just that for six episodes in a row like it didn't really evolve I don't know I thought there's like you could have done way more with those with those two guys cuz those those two were very like likable Yeah, and then at the end when he's driving off like with the Terminator glasses driving the Like now I'm the security guard. It was almost laughable like it was one like you know empowering song away from being like a cheesy 80s film where he drives off in the sunset like now I'm a big wig and like that's it We're leaving this very subtle nuance low burning characters like now He's the head of security the end and he's like coochie and flies away like that was so bad I thought it's like they all the innocent characters shed their like their integrity It was like the woman that got five million dollars is like peace out It's like when she did the same thing that happened to her exactly and then the The what's his name there that this guy became the head security guard suddenly like his boot is him his Buddhist ways And not wanting to kill her just like I got the girl I got the job speaking of the dynamic between him and the girl that he was obviously the main big crush on she's a little Little bit of Macbeth stuff going on there That's gonna be a tough life for him and then because she's like This is enough do you care? You know you thought you were a different sort of man That was the whole the whole thing was basically I'm into you but only if you can get this promotion only if you could do this and so it feels like a happy ending like it's like Hey, you got the girl you got the job, but I'm like, I don't know today. It's security guard tomorrow It's gonna be like ownership in the hotel.
She's never gonna be satisfied who hasn't who hasn't happened in the show? It's like a family doesn't really they're going back to hell in North Carolina like security Is that the ending for sure but that's our say I think it's like oh It's like like she's just always gonna want more from him. It's never gonna be enough Okay, I mean like overall like I thought you meant ending that's the happy ending and then it's always hell once you get in Relationship and stuff The woman who's going to you know in her life is obviously gonna end up being hell in the money's gonna cause a linear problems for her But that's a happy ending for her she rides off in the boat We all know that season four is going to feature her and her life's gonna unravel Yeah, yeah, that is a happy standing that is like you know that ending Greg because his Quebec girlfriend finally finds someone to sleep The three girlfriends had a happy ending because they can That was nice, but yeah, and I love I actually do love that Billy Preston song nothing from nothing from nothing that they end up Like I go and this is the power of music and a fun ending is it's like no matter like my eye rolling through different parts of that Finale like when that song is like hey, didn't nothing from nothing and I was like, oh, right? Like the reveal of the the Walton Coggan's dad too was so sloppy the woman being like that was your dad he told me It's like that's how we're revealing Like give me a conversation between them where they can unpack this revelation Yeah, like a moment where he finds a photo like something something please say thing Not just so expositional and then it's done It was kind of like the sloppiest Shakespearian I've murdered him and now this character gives me this crucial piece of information and I'm gonna go on this suicide walk You know I want to go out now with my my bride or whatever And you know again like I could I could see like people getting in like they may be like that was fucking awesome I was fucked that was crazy how that ended that was super and they're just not thinking too much And that's okay.
That's what this shows are it's a populist show You know, I just like I think what we all want or what we're looking for is like show me something different than I didn't expect I didn't predict and all that that sort of thing and that's a great thing about shows and art is we all get different things out of it But I not for one second to I wish I didn't watch all the episodes I was like man hell of a hell of a way to spend eight hours You know what would have been where can I think if because they kind of teased this idea and this was my prediction Which I think would have been a really banger idea, which obviously the beginning of the episode of theme song They've changed it's not as good. It's not as like the season two theme song was just so amazing But then you notice episode three they start playing the theme song a little bit from episode that happened in season two You know, but really banger theme song like oh my god They're lightly playing it and teasing that at some, you know, awesome moment They're gonna hit in with the the full theme song from season two and that's how I thought they were gonna end the series Which would have been so satisfying for so many people thinking that they were holding that theme song off the board only to play it out of climax part, right? Yeah, like episode two or three. Why did they play the theme song from season two?
I was curious why they even teased it. It's a good question, but this I don't know if this answers it But I saw an article I don't know if you guys saw this but the composer he's clear. He gave an interview It's saying like I'm done. I'm done with Mike White.
I'm done with the show They don't understand artists. They keep telling me more happy more happy But that only they understand how you compose these things and it's an artistic expression I can only do what I do with the way the music and you know, it's a very classic like, you know It's always a difficult thing anybody that works in because artists objective and what we want and it's like we all have a boss or somebody Leading the project someone is the project leader or the creative director and and this situation It's Mike White and his producers or whoever it is and this guy is like you don't understand what I'm doing with this fucking music And I'm done. I will not be doing another season But what a fascinating interview to give like I was like last week I saw that before the finale Yeah, before the finale. Yeah, he did everything low mail big in the New York Times Basically anybody who wanted he wanted an opportunity to show on my wife He was like yeah, Mike didn't even like the song that ended up being a big hit Like we just can't really like get along or trust Mike White on any of the stuff It just used to be Woody Harrelson.
Yes, you know, you know, because and like the idea is that he didn't want to work for scale Even though everybody's working for scale in that show and I know it's like you know the statement so if anyone doesn't know so the way it was I guess there's a big Hollywood reporter Oral history on the season or something and they went into how Woody Harrelson had been casted as the Walton Goggins character And then that wasn't gonna work So then they they come in do the Sam Rockwell bit Which is a little bit less of a heavy lift ends up being this, you know, such an impressionable all-time scene Like shaded lu to earlier that you know, what he probably could have got himself an Emmy for that speech in theory But anyway, the whole thing with the way they make the show is everyone in the cast because I'll go away to these great resort And they shoot for whatever it is three months or something They all make forty thousand dollars an episode and that's it like that's across the board So if you have a cast of 20 all the mains get that nobody gets more or less than that Woody Harrelson is obviously a big star is he won an Oscar and it was been nominated, but anyway, you know, he'd be the biggest Star that I think's ever been on white lotus in case I'm mistaken So the theory or I guess it was insinuated that he didn't want to work for 40k an episode which you know Whatever the way that all these things work as you get paid based on your pedigree He had then came out the statement after this holiday report I think it was people did and they said it wasn't a money thing It was that the schedule it shifted when they were gonna shoot and so he couldn't he had a family vacation plan And so he couldn't be on the island at the resort to shoot the sand Like this seems to Sam Rockwell I'll do it and then he did a very classic thing what he said in any way No one could have done that scene is good as Sam Rockwell He said something like that praising Sam and which was a really smart thing to do I think because it's also kind of tacky to kind of tacky to hold reported name the actor that was good that turned it down Because it's kind of circle Sam Rockwell I don't know why they do this but if you ever listen to actors interviews They don't like to talk about something they were maybe before how it's done loves to ask a question I listen I love those what ifs the sliding doors of Hollywood, but there seems to be some actor code where they you know It's like oh, I don't want to talk about the one I turned down because it's not you know But this was different because he was attached and then detached there was a scheduling issue It wasn't just offered and didn't go for it because I don't think that's an interesting story and the excuse is very interesting Because it's the flimsy excuse in the world like what was the vacation like with his family? Like you're an actor your whole life's a vacation you can just reschedule at any time It's true. Yeah, it's so true. Yeah, so you had so you were thinking that with woody It was a money thing a hundred percent only get it's only thousand an episode Which is obviously a lot of money for us, but compared to what he gets normally.
That's probably nothing Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, but but overall what it's oh so we think that season two was better than season three Yeah, what would we give this isn't a white lonus great some great performances to some stand-up people Patrick Schwarzenegger? I didn't know I know you had it in you good actor. Yeah, that's yeah for me I think okay, I'm gonna get say seven out of ten seven point five out of ten It could have been like an eight and a half all they had to do was change the scene with Sam Rockwell when he's trying to play the movie producer Make him super competent then he makes an error a crucial error in that meeting Mm-hmm Forces him to have a drink to loosen up and that's how he changes the subject and that's how he falls off to me That's really believable and that would have elevated it But that scene as is was just so stupid.
I can't forgive it So for that reason 7.5 out of 10 max it would give it a 10 because even at its worst is better than right? Right eight eight 7.5. So I was gonna go with it as well as an open eight alright. It's across the board there you have it Okay, before we go I want to let it really listen.
No, I'm holding my new book in my hand. It comes with April 22nd Let's go right by the way Max. He looks great. Thank you guys Let's call it up Ash wants everyone know the inside lining is orange.

So you just get a ticket ahead of time It's gonna be an interesting variety night of sorts I'm working on actually want to see Mike Vierman after this because we have to write some bits and Regional comedy is in the works Well, like I think this isn't a testament we've talked about in this pot a million times max and ash I don't think they do anything normal And this is like, you know, it's a book event right where you go to when people release a book to have her You maybe read a few chapters or something people come and they listen you talk about process I think Max's thing is he just always wants to do everything very big and him and Ash have sort of been like Let's do this at my old high school What does what does a max Kerman book release look like in compared to other events? And I think that's you know what you guys are doing That's what's exciting like you said if you buy a ticket you also get the book signed and then it's like you know There might be some special guests I think it's like a very exciting kind of thing that you guys do very well You guys are like the event match you event eyes everything and make it like the standard But yeah, that's what this is that's my understanding of what this is. Yeah, it is get your ticket now It was a April 22nd at max is old high school go to max tournament calm It's a website it has all the information that you would need if you want to attend the book event and you're in the Toronto area I'm gonna fly in hey, maybe I'll see me there maybe I'll see Shane there who knows But gang thank you so much.
