The Why
from Elsewhere, Slowly
Before asking for your time, I figured I owed you a reason. This first episode is the story of why Elsewhere, Slowly exists, and how a stubborn, technical kid who was rarely told why grew into someone who can kneel beside a patch of moss and feel something close to reverence. It wanders from a French Catholic school in Ontario, where communion tasted like paper and meant nothing to me, to a twelve-day drive across the country to Vancouver Island, through years of working myself to exhaustion, through loss, and up to a canoe trip in Tombstone Territorial Park that started to put me back together. Along the way there’s Mythbusters, a Lego maze for a pet skink, a YouTube channel called Canerdian Gaming, and the slow change from consuming places to communing with them. Every episode ends with a poem. This one is set on the Blackstone slopes, as the snow comes off the mosses. If you found this show through a poster somewhere in the Yukon or northern BC, welcome, and thank you for giving it a listen! Written and read by Triston Line.
