"The Willow Man" is a cautionary poem about a gnarled old willow tree whose head grows a magical crop of Christmas mistletoe each year. A wise Dame always greets him politely and leaves a sprig behind — but when she shares his secret with the children, they scoff at her courtesy and strip every berry, leaving nothing. The ancient Willow, trembling with rage, vows the mistletoe will never return.
