The Wind Never Lies

from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick

Serious bowhunters wage a lifelong war on scent — showering in scent-free soap, storing clothes in sealed totes, dressing in the field. Because a whitetail's nose never lies. Whatever you actually carry on you, the deer downwind knows the truth of it long before you're seen.Paul says every believer gives off a scent too: we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ. People downwind of your life — your coworkers, your kids, the man at the boat ramp — catch what you actually carry, not what you claim. Bitterness has an odor. So does grace. Pride drifts. So does humility. You can't cover a bad scent with better words any more than a hunter can fool a buck's nose with talk. The only fix is at the source: time with Jesus until you start to carry Him on you. Men who linger near Christ smell like Him. What are the people downwind of your life catching?Prayer:Lord Jesus, let my life carry Your aroma — grace, patience, honesty, hope — to everyone downwind of me.Strip away the scents that don't belong: bitterness, pride, cynicism. Keep me close enough to You that I can't help carrying You with me. Amen.Challenge:Ask someone who knows you well — spouse, close friend, one of your kids — 'What do people pick up from me when I don't know they're watching?' Listen without defending. That's your scent.
