This is the most important podcast we’ve done so far in 2026. For anyone that is unaware, Texas Parks & Wildlife is considering pushing the envelope even further on mountain lion regulations by requiring mandatory harvest reporting on a NON-GAME SPECIES! My friend and West Texas Big Bobcat Contest founder Jeremy Harrison makes his return for an in-depth conversation regarding a serious fundamental issue that appears to lie at the head of the snake in the form of TPWD Executive Director David Yoskowitz. Jeremy and I met in August of 2022 while speaking at the annual TPWD Commission Meeting in Austin. We were there representing the hunting, trapping and ranching communities in protest of proposed mountain lion restrictions put forth by the activist group known as “Texans for Mountain Lions”. While TPWD didn’t immediately accept their anti-hunting demands, they did give in and form the “Mountain Lion Stakeholder Working Group” which sadly, wasn’t well represented by hunters or trappers (this was by design of course). In 2024, the TPWD Commission accepted two proposals stemming from the recommendations of the Mountain Lion Stakeholder Group: 1) Banning all “canned” hunts for Mountain Lions 2) Implementing a mandatory 36 hour trap check for all traps While these are minor victories for the activist groups in theory, we all had to wonder why TPWD was negotiating with these animal rights activists in the first place. Now, we fast forward to April of 2026 and TPWD is pushing their agenda once again with a proposal to require Texans to report the harvest of all mountain lions. Why does this matter? How did we get here? Jeremy did some serious independent investigation and uncovered a paper trail that should make every Texas sportsman’s blood boil.
