The Women Founders: Milwaukee’s Soldiers Home

Send us Fan MailBy 1864, the group of women who were caring for returning Civil War veterans in temporary storefronts along Water Street quickly realized that they needed more space. But a new permanent home required money. Lots of it. So in the summer of 1865, they would throw a fair — a fair we're still talking about more than 150 years later.
