The Women Founders: Milwaukee’s Soldiers Home
from Milwaukee PBS Digital · host Milwaukee PBS
Send us Fan MailIn 1862, a group of young women formed the West Side Soldiers' Aid Society to help care for Civil War veterans returning home from battle. They quickly became what historians called the city's most important group and arguably most responsible for today's Milwaukee Soldiers Home. More than a century later, a group of modern-day women resurrected the West Side Soldiers' Aid Society. The producers of the digital series, The Women Founders: Milwaukee Soldiers Home, would like to thank the Civil War Museum in Kenosha as well as the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee for allowing us to film part of this series at their locations. We would also like to thank the Milwaukee Soldiers Home for being so hospitable to us throughout the production of this series. Find more programs at https://www.milwaukeepbs.org/stream
