"The Woodstock Stories" - S2 EP12

In this episode of Can’t Find My Way Home, we take a look at one of the live music landmarks in Seoul, South Korea - Woodstock, Itaewon. This year marks the 4 year anniversary since I left South Korea after 17 years. Quite a stretch, you could say. The last gig I played, just a couple of days before heading back to Scotland, was at Woodstock, in Itaewon with my band - Sticky Fingers. True to form, Tom, Mike, Jeff, Josh and I started at 11pm and played on into the wee hours. A bunch of friends swung by and watched the show, then we drank some more, long into the night. It was a great, memorable way to leave the country I’d called home for so long. Loud music, friends, beer, grreat banter, late nights, then the long walk home with my cymbal bag, snare drum, and backpack full of sweaty tshirts, towels and a myriad of other things that only drummers would appreciate. I’d played at Woodstock countless times over the years and forever cursed the increasing layer upon layer of duct tape on those (once fantastic sounding) drums...but that was part of the deal. Bandmates and I would often stay late after shows, air-drum to GnR or Van Halen, drinking brandy shots with Mr Woo. You’d get into conversation with all sorts of people, from all over the world, talking about music, drums, or why Alex Van Halen’s such an underrated drummer.  There was always something going down. Anyway, I digress… Sadly Mr Woo passed away in April 2019 and more recently, the building has also been torn down. Itaewon and the music scene in Seoul, is a lesser place for it. This episode is a collection of clips, interviews and written contributions from numerous friends and fellow musicians who had also played at Woodstock over the years.
