One cannot help but ask, in light of such an extraordinary event as the incarnation, what was the point of it? What was the end our purpose that God had in mind? The obvious answer and the one that is most commonly given, is that God the Son came to earth, and became a man in order to save us from our sins. But, this is not the great purpose or end goal of the incarnation! Jesus’ death was necessary, but it was only a means not the end. To really understand the incarnation, we must be clear about its great purpose. What was the end goal of the incarnation which his death was the means? The chief end of the incarnation was so that God could be with us, and so that could know Him and see His glory.
