The Words You Use In Caregiving

from Dementia Careblazers

The words you use or don't use can impact whether or not the person with dementia is agreeable to what you are offering. In this episode I break down the reason words are so important and give you ideas for how you can start to change how you refer to things and present things to your person with dementia keeping in mind what you know about them personally.  If there is anything you struggle with getting your loved one to accept, play around with changing how you talk about it and refer to it.  Click Here for a YouTube video I did on this topic. Be sure to jump to the comment section to see how this simple strategy can be significant. Feel free to leave your own comment on that video as well.  If you want information specific to taking medication, you can click HERE. The numbers don't lie- new onset dementia is a diagnosis seen with greater frequency. Is it because of chronic brain inflammation that started before you were born? Is it because of undiagnosed stealth infections, toxic burdens or something else?In this podcast, we explore the science of health habits that will change the direction of your brain health forever. You will be challenged, like I was, to RETHINK what it means to be healthy. This podcast is hosted by Sande Bargeron, PhD, who, after years in the medical field, was forced to re-examine foundational health and the meaning of healing. After dealing with personal autoimmune issues, losing a family member to dementia, struggling with kids who had ADHD and a child with chronic neurological Lyme Disease, she learned that protecting the brain was a highly overlooked aspect of human health. We medicate brain issues, but Living With Lewy Larry Anderson My name is Larry and I live with Lewy Body Dementia.
