The Work of Faith

Paul thanks God for the Thessalonian believers’ “work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thess. 1:3), showing that true Christian life unites faith, love, and hope in action. The “work of faith” is not mere belief but hard, self-giving labor to obey God’s Word and serve His people faith that transforms both heart and hands. The “labour of love” is the sweaty, sacrificial dedication we owe to the Lord, just as Christ’s love for us was proven in the costly work of the cross. And the “patience of hope” is steadfast endurance and persistent action, no matter the obstacles, because we hope in the victorious Christ. In a world more troubled than the early church ever faced plagued by economic distress, political tyranny, and humanistic statism this is no hour for despair.
