The World Is Your Cheeseburger

from The AJNashville Podcast · host Alex Jimenez

Each of your actions taken compound into the goal you set out to accomplish, just like all the different layers that work together to make up a cheeseburger the way you like it made. On a deeper dive though, would you really want all those toppings every single time you made a burger your way? The magic of the McDonald's cheeseburger definitely isn't the quality of the meat, rather it is the simplicity and consistency of how they make it, no matter which location you walk in to. Everyone knows the classic cheeseburger comes with ketchup, mustard, onion, and pickle. Whether you like it just as it comes, or customized, you know how to order a cheeseburger the way you like it, because McDonald's continues to make their cheeseburgers the same exact way as they did decades ago. That predictability is what makes their brand reliable and desired, no matter how terribly it was wrapped up.The goal isn't to make a cheeseburger everyone wants, that would be impossible. Not everyone wants a cheeseburger, and definitely not for every meal every day. However, we should be aiming to execute the results on a consistent basis in order to track metrics when we decide to make changes for progress within our business or personal relationships. When we decide we want to make a change, we have to remain vigilant in the process, not just rushing to the end result and wondering why we failed to get there. Most failures only occur because we give up too soon or try to progress too quickly beyond reasonable means. Making changes has to happen sometime in the process if we expect progress to continue to happen, but usually they are most needed after a successful routine has already been established and now reached a plateau. Knowing how to pivot involves knowing when to do so wisely, which happens when you have measurable results you have been keeping track of. This allows you to reflect on how consistent you really were, and which metrics show differences for the better or worst of your goal. You have to have a standard of measurement in order to track deviations to avoid or repeat your success.Don't die by a thousand papercuts. Find the ways that no longer serve you and get rid of them. Focus on what you can do to create the change you desire.
