The Wound That Became Wisdom
from The Gen X Disciple · host Gen X Disciple
Gen X doesn't lack for thorns — the health condition that didn't resolve, the relational pattern that kept recurring despite genuine effort, the limitation that stayed no matter how much willpower we brought to it. And most of us have asked for the removal of our thorn more than once. This episode is about what Paul's answer to that prayer actually means, and what has grown in the place where we are not strong.2 Corinthians 12:9 records God's response to Paul's three requests for thorn removal: not removal, but sufficiency. "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Paul's response is remarkable — he doesn't grieve the no, he boasts in his weaknesses, because the weak place is where Christ's power becomes visible. The episode traces what that looks like for Gen X specifically: the wounds that became compassion, the limitations that kept us dependent on God rather than self-sufficient, the places where something grew that couldn't have grown on easier ground."But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV) Today's challenge: name one ongoing weakness, limitation, or thorn, write next to it "This is where His power is made perfect," and pray for grace to carry it — not only asking for its removal.
