The Wounded Blue
from Heroes Behind Headlines · host Heroes Behind Headlines
Our guest today is Lt. Randy Sutton founder and chairman of the board of The Wounded Blue, a national non-profit that supports injured law enforcement officers and emphasizes the critical need for community, purpose and post-service direction. During his distinguished 34-year career with the Las Vegas Police Department , Randy survived five officer-related shooting and countless violent arrests, but it was a stroke suffered on the Las Vegas Strip at 2:30 in the morning the turned his life around. Lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life, Randy expected his police department to rally around him – their most decorated veteran and the youngest cop to join the force at age nineteen. Instead they denied his medical benefits and spent taxpayer money fighting his claim in court. Randy fought back and in the process transformed American law enforcement forever. From his hospital bed he founded The Wounded Blue - the largest law enforcement officer support organization in the nation. The Wounded Blue now operates a 24/7 crisis hotline 833-TWB-TALK and has helped over 15,000 abandoned officers reclaim their lives, careers and dignity.
