The Wrestler

Episode 302 of Tom Clark's 6M Podcast takes a look at The Wrestler. Tom Clark and Phil Lindsey break down Darren Aronofsky's 2008 sports drama starring Mickey Rourke as Randy "The Ram" Robinson, an aging professional wrestler trying to recapture the glory of his 1980s heyday while dealing with his failing health, broken relationships, and uncertain future. They discuss Rourke's career-defining comeback performance, the film's emotional portrayal of life after the spotlight, and how it captures the physical and personal sacrifices that come with professional wrestling. They also examine the film's impact on wrestling fans, the performances from Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood, and whether The Wrestler is an accurate portrayal of the business or a deeper story about regret, identity, and finding where you belong. With critical acclaim, award nominations, and a lasting legacy, does The Wrestler stand as one of the greatest wrestling movies ever made? Dive into that and a lot more!
