The Yehudah Project: Another unarmed man shot by police in Chicago! Terrible!

Dramatic police bodycam video was released Friday showing a Chicago Police Department officer firing his gun at an unarmed teenager speeding away in a stolen car before he was shot dead by cops. That officer and two other cops were stripped of their police powers immediately after the July 28 shooting of Paul O’Neal, 18, who had reportedly stolen a convertible Jaguar in Bolingbrook, a southwestern suburb of Chicago. Officers in their patrol cars pursued O’Neal into the South Shore neighborhood, where two of the cops opened fire at the teen while he was in the stolen vehicle. A third officer then chased the teen on foot into the back yard of a house, where the cop fatally shot him in the back after he refused to stop. The video does not show the moment O’Neal was killed.  Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson disciplined the three officers because it appeared they had violated the department’s use-of-force policy, which stipulates that police cannot fire their weapons into a car when that vehicle poses the only threat. The officer wearing the bodycam is seen sitting in the passenger seat and pulling out his loaded 9mm semi-automatic. As soon as the patrol car stops, he leaps out and fires a quick succession of shots at the oncoming Jaguar. His partner then fires shots as the Jaguar disappears down the street. The head of the Independent Police Review Authority, the agency that investigates Chicago police misconduct, called the video “shocking and disturbing.” Chicago has seen a rash of fatal police-involved shootings that led to the firing of Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy last December.
