#TheBlackReset - It's About US! - Economic Virtual Town Hall Meeting

from Black Politics Today · host Black Politics Today

In the wake of the sanctioned murders of unarmed Black men and women like Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Atatinana Jefferson, Aura Rosser, Stephon Clark, and most recently Jacob Blake who was shot 7 times in the back at point-blank range by, you guessed it another white cop, who will certainly claim that he was fearing for his life, as Jacob Blake slowly walked away from the officer, to get into his car, we find ourselves again discussing police brutality, systemic racism and pure disregard for Black human life.  In spite of all of this, Black America must focus on multiple areas of struggle in their community, including and arguably the most important, which is economic opportunity and stability. The Black Economy that saw a dramatic increase during the 1990s and again in 2009 when Black unemployment dropped to 5% until 2017 when a making-of another recession crept into our economy as the result of poor leadership in Washington. African-American unemployment stands today at 16.8% the highest its every been since the Great Depression. More than half of Black small businesses have closed their doors forever. Nearly 25% of COVID19 deaths are Black. Black America can no longer continue on this path. It’s time for the Black Reset! #TheBlackReset My guest to discuss the opportunity to reset the Black economy is Jeri Green, Kevin Kimble, LaTosha Brown, Brandon Andrews, and Dr. Maya Rockymoore Cummings.
