Theodora Smiley Lacey

from Bergen County Commissioners's Podcast

There's no other way to say it; Theodora Smiley Lacey is living history. She is a civil rights activist who helped organize the Montgomery bus boycott. She subsequently moved up north where she and her family settled in Teaneck. There, she fought for voting rights and fair housing. Chairwoman Mary Amoroso had the privilege to speak with this living legend shortly after an elementary school in Teaneck was named in her honor.
