This Forum begins with the presentation of the David Nyhan Prize for Political Journalism to Cynthia Tucker, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the Universal Press Syndicate. After the presentation of the award, David Brooks, columnist for the New York Times, discusses big questions and answers drawn from the 2012 U.S. presidential election. Brooks talks about the major changes in the U.S. electorate in the 2012 elections, such as changing family structures, the growing diversity of the U.S. and the evolving perception of gay civil rights and the right to marry. Brooks contends that like the changes Harvard made to become more inclusive of diversity in the 1950’s, the Republican party is now at the cross-roads of either becoming more inclusive of diverse groups or as seen in the 2012 elections, suffering the consequences.
