Pastor John KeatingChristmas time is the season we know:- Music changes- Christmas lights- Christings trees- Busy scheduleWhile we all know what's coming, the idea of ‘foretold' is the exact idea of the first Christmas, that it was foretold to bring hope, a "Hope Foretold."Isaiah 7 and 53: Birth and Death foretoldIsaiah 9:6-7 (NLT)- The theme throughout scripture is that a literal Kingdom exists on earth that will be established once again and reign forever.- Verse 6 foretells three things about the coming Messiah: - His Humanity, His Deity, His PositionHis Humanity: “For to us, a child is given.”- Jesus was human: He got tired and thirsty and laid down at the well. - After being tempted by Satan, He was hungry; some versions say she was famished. - Even more, Jesus knew what pain, suffering, and death were, the conclusion of life for all who live. His Deity: "Unto us, a Son is given."- John 1:1 (NLT)- 1 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)His Position: "The government will be upon His shoulders."- This is a monarchy; it is one individual, decision-maker, leader, and king!- The King who walked amongst his people: - Dress as a peasant - Walked the markets- God did the same by sending Jesus to show us how to liveThe Character of the King:- And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, wise! Build a house, Mighty God, and have the ability to change. Everlasting Father, eternal, steadfast Prince of Peace.- Peace comes to people who can say “Glory to God in the highest,” only in anticipation of what’s to come. Jesus will come again; it will end wars, transcend all evil on earth, and come to rescue broken hearts. He will never cease; it is eternal, not a 4-year term. It will expand to be a more peaceful & purer world.When we, as Christ's followers, fulfill the Great Commission to spread the hope of Jesus (Matthew 28) or look after orphans and widows in distress as instructed in James 1, we glimpse Christ's future reign to those living now. Will you allow Christ in you to be the hope for the world?
