Well, that's going to die a death, a quiet death. 00:25 So the way things work right now, in order for you to be a judge in some of these circuits around South Carolina, you have to be approved by our state legislature. Now the weird thing is that a lot of the members of our state legislature, they're also lawyers. Yeah, they're trial lawyers. Now I just want to think, just think about how sweet this is, right? Got a little part-time job over in the State House. 01:02 But your biggest selling point, and I mean that literally, your biggest selling point is, I'm one of the guys that appoints judges. So if you, I'm surprised they don't put this on their ads on television. So when you've got a lawyer that has got to defend him, what is that lawyer's job? 01:44 to get some sort of a better plea deal for that client than the law would normally allow. So your client is accused of, let's say he's got weapons charges, he's got breaking and entering, he's got burglary and things like that. So then you go before this judge, go, hey, hey, judge, how are you? You know what, I remember when I voted for you to get that robe. 02:13 Yeah, I was the guy that voted for you to get that robe. That was me. I did that. You wouldn't mind reducing some of these charges against my client, would you? You wouldn't mind taking away the burglary. You wouldn't mind taking away the gun charges and just let's just make this misdemeanor breaking and entering. 02:34 I mean, after all, I did you a favor, right? 02:40 Okay, we'll drop those and that's ladies and gentlemen, that is literally the way Columbia works. That's that is not that is a scenario, but it is not an exaggeration. 02:58 That's the way it works. 03:02 And if you have committed a crime, who better to go to? 03:08 Do you want to go to the local attorney that's going to defend you or do you want to go to the guy that's in the state legislature that knows the judges? Oh yes, that's the guy. No wonder. So the Senate is going to kill this. They're going to do it quietly. The House passed it in South Carolina. like, all right, we've got to do some reform here. It's not going to pass in the Senate. 03:37 I hate to break this to you, but can I just lay out for right now just a few things that we are not going to have as long as these people are in office? We're not going to have close primaries. Stop whining about it. Stop yelling about it. You're not going to get it. It ain't going to happen. You're not going to get a better judicial system here in South Carolina. Forget it.
