There once burned a fire
from Poetry by Tim Windisch · host Tim Windisch
There once burned a fireBack at the very beginning, when it seemed that they were winningLong before he knew her only devotion was pledged to sinningA hunger she passed as passion, took them so high till it went crashingHer need for love was a veiled ruse for cash to keep her in fashionWhere once sat a cauldron filled with loveOne he used to believe came from aboveJust a cracked broken pot in a funeral pyreCold and lonely, but there once burned a fireIt went out with all her lies, a broken shell huddles alone and criesBeat up, shunned and defecated, love suffocated, still he triesFixated on a memory of a glance, used with cunning to induce romanceLying there gasping for air, his love begged one last chanceWhere once sat a cauldron filled with loveOne he used to believe came from aboveJust a cracked broken pot in a funeral pyreCold and lonely, but there once burned a fireHis cries fell upon her deaf ears, like they had been doing for yearsShe kept the gaslight burning brightly to allay all of his fearsAnd when she grew tired of her game, with a tap of herfinger erased his nameTime for another to tickle her fancy, and then she will again do the sameWhere once sat a cauldron filled with loveOne he used to believe came from aboveJust a cracked broken pot in a funeral pyreCold and lonely, but there once burned a fireSo sad to see it like this, cause there once burned a fire…Tim Windisch7 18 2026
