"Therefore, NOW, No Condemnation!" (Rom 8:1-4), part 2/4
from The Bible Provocateur · host The Bible Provocateur
Send us Fan Mail“There is therefore now no condemnation” is either a rock-solid promise or just a comforting slogan. We take Romans 8:1 seriously, slow it down, and ask the question that sits underneath every assurance debate: are we actually “in Christ”? Because if union with Christ is real, then condemnation isn’t waiting around the corner for the next failure. We talk about salvation as a transfer of dominion, not a self-improvement program. Scripture’s picture is that sin once ruled like a government, but believers have been moved into a new kingdom under grace, with Christ as King. That lens also reshapes how we hear modern claims like “I used to be a Christian” and why perseverance of the saints isn’t about human willpower. It’s about what Christ accomplishes and what the Holy Spirit applies. We also address the often-misused Romans 8:1 wording about “walking after the Spirit.” We argue it’s describing the fruit of being declared free, not the price of staying free. Along the way we connect assurance of salvation to the new covenant promise of forgiven sin, the Spirit as God’s seal, and the difference between loving chastisement and crushing condemnation. If you’ve ever wrestled with fear, guilt, or the message that Christ did “most” of the saving and you must finish the rest, this conversation is for you.
