There’s More Than One Career Path with Randy Gomez

from Dr. B Show · host Jairo Borja, The Dr. B Show Podcast

In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B talks to educator and entrepreneur Randy Gomez. Randy is the CEO and Founder of the Academy of Young Leaders, a proactive learning program that utilizes experiential workshops to provide high-school students with career clarity. Randy talks about the need to expose kids to more career options such as trade schools, as opposed to just going to the 4-year college diploma route. She also talks about her decision to leave her 9 to 5 job at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to become an entrepreneur. HIGHLIGHTSWe need more tradespeopleWhy high school students are often not college-readyTrade schools are making a comebackTurning to entrepreneurship during the pandemicAddressing the pain points of high schoolsExposing the kids to more career options How to know if you've got that entrepreneur in youQUOTESRandy: "The whole stigma behind that everyone has to go to a four-year college, it has to stop. Trade schools are amazing. We all need a plumber, we all need an electrician. The world has a place for everyone and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that." Randy: "When you learn about these things and when you hear that this is how the money is being split up, you understand that there's a lack of resources. And these educators are truly doing the best that they can with what they've got. They're literally like the song said, 'tryin' to make a dollar out of 15 cents.'"Randy: "When the universe aligns with what you do on a daily basis, you really do not work another day of your life because it is all fun and play and you're just happy to be making money on the way."Randy: "That's a huge pain point, that right now the education system cannot keep up with the technology and what's happening in the world of finance. So if we're able to provide that workshop for the parents for their peace of mind, and now for the educator to know that yes, I'm teaching social studies, math, and all that, but this program is covering that part of the education that they need to know today."You can learn more about Randy in the links below.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/randycgomezEmail:  [email protected] (Academy of Young Leaders): https://www.academyofyoungleaders.com/Instagram (Academy of Young Leaders): https://www.instagram.com/academyofyoungleaders/If you’re listening to the Dr. B Show Podcast, please subscribe, share, and we’re listening for your feedback.
