„These things haven‘t changed“ - Interview with Claire. Denis about „The Fence“

from Moviebreak Interviews und Festivals · host Lida Bach

Colonialist conflicts on the African continent are a recurring theme in Claire Denis (Stars at Noon) oeuvre, to which she returns again in her most recent cinematic effort. The Fence takes its characters through one long night of reckoning, retribution, and - or at least hoping for - redemption. After premiering in Toronto, the allegorical adaptation of Bernard-Marie Koltès's 1979 stage play "Black Battles with Dogs" screens at the 22nd Marrakech International Film Festival in the Horizons section. In the chilly early morning hours on site in Marrakech, the French filmmaker opened up about her promise to Bernard-Marie Koltès, bringing his play to the screen, and the continuation of colonialism.
