Louis-area school districts look at tax increases: From the piece: "Area school districts are weighing tax increases as a funding crisis looms over public education. At least four local districts are considering ballot measures, with two, Webster Groves and Parkway, surveying residents about whether they would support tax hikes. Two other districts have already asked constituents for more at a time when rising expenses, from insurance to salaries, are tightening school budgets amid declining federal and state funding. Voters in the Ferguson-Florissant approved a 48-cent property tax increase in April to stem multi-million-dollar shortfalls, following a turbulent year of cuts. The district now projects it will end this year with a $3 million surplus. The same month, Rockwood sought its first operating rate increase in 30 years to help sustain teacher raises.
