“I understand this must be confusing,” says the soft little human in the robe, and the Ambassador in Pearl hates that thought. “It is not.” She moves her head, and she can feel the movement ripple down the cloak of javelins covering her back. Any one of them would end this uncomfortable encounter.“Ah. My apologies for assuming. But, it’s about time you and I discussed the terms of your agreement with us, right?”“Is it?” She has no sense of time. Some of the humans in the robes seem to know this, and some do not. “Let’s. May I start by asking what it is you want?”She casts her gaze back at the Mountain, where her kin writhe and slither over a world too crowded for them.“To be left alone.”She looks back at the human, whose expression has changed. From what, and into what, she couldn’t say.
