Third Sunday of Lent: Jesus of Montreal

from Catholic Church · host Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales

As we travel on a journey of faith through Christ's passion, death and resurrection, this podcast series - 'Lent and Easter at the Movies' - takes us to the cinema as Fr Peter Malone MSC relates a series of thought-provoking movies to the day's Gospel reading. Third Sunday of Lent - Jesus of Montreal (1989) "Jesus of Montreal is very much a film showing a portrait of Jesus via excerpts from a Passion Play but also a contemporary story where the central character is a Christ-figure and does 'Jesus-like' things that people can recognise and understand the meaning of the Gospel. Here is a film by a director brought up a Catholic, from Montreal, who said in a documentary 'you can't do a Jesus film as we don't know enough about him' who has produced this very fine Jesus film."
