Today's Free Agent Who Had a Fresh Start in Philly is Jake Elliott. On this day in 1948 Phillies GM Herb Pennock, of Kennett Square, died of a brain hemorrhage. Pennock had a Hall of Fame career as a pitcher. As a GM he helped build the Whiz Kids. He also opposed the integration of baseball and played a big role in the Phillies anti-Jackie Robinson stance.
