This Doesn't Make Sense, But If You Say So — Peter's Honest Prayer
from Daily Hope with Pastor John S. Dickerson · host John S. Dickerson
Have you ever told God honestly that what He's asking doesn't make sense, and then obeyed Him anyway? In Luke chapter 5, Simon Peter has just spent twelve exhausting hours fishing all night and catching absolutely nothing. Then Jesus tells him to row back out and let his nets down again. Peter doesn't pretend it makes sense. He says it plainly: Master, we worked hard all last night and didn't catch a thing. That's real, honest confusion. But then comes the hinge that changes everything: but if you say so, I will let the nets down again. Not blind faith that ignores reality, but honest faith that obeys anyway. In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson uses this moment to ask where in your own life following Jesus feels like it doesn't make sense right now. Maybe it's staying faithful in prayer for someone who seems far from God. Maybe it's a hard conversation with a coworker or neighbor about your faith. Maybe it's parenting kids who seem disinterested in God, or ongoing repentance that feels tiring. Wherever that is, this episode is an invitation to say what Peter said.
